Alpha/Beta: On the New Models

The new models are gorgeous. They are supple. They are detailed. They move beautifully. The new emotes and animations are fun. A great deal of effort has been put into them. And I really, really wanted to love them. But I don’t.

This is Shayed: the old on the left and the new on the right.

Alpha: First Impressions Hordeside

I was only able to spend a few minutes in the Alpha on the Horde side before the servers came down but here are my first impressions.

My armor seems to be missing a chest guard

My armor seems to be missing a chest guard…

I created a rogue (of course) and my very first thought looking at my character screen was, what the heck is up with that outfit! It might be attractive on a human model but it really feels like there is something missing in the “don’t stab me in the heart” department. And that hat; it really gives a very top-heavy Predator look. Daggers look really cool though – love the claw embellishment. Continue reading

I’m in the Alpha!

Oh my! Someone let Shayed into the Warlords of Draenor Alpha Test. As this unfolds, I will be sharing screenshots and impression. Feel free to ask questions and I’ll see what I can do about answering them. I hope to have my first thoughts up in the next few days.

Alpha Test Invitation

I am honored and humbled, thanks Blizz!

Any Lewis Carroll fan is familiar with the Walrus and the Carpenter. They were the friends who took a stroll along a beach in the eponymous poem from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There published in 1872.

Well here they are, large as life off the north-western coast of Pandaria. Tic Tak the Carpenter is a hozen, hard at work building a boat.

On Leatherworking

As a leatherworker I feel that the profession is really grindy. And perhaps unfairly more grindy than other crafting professions. Compared to tailoring, for example, it feels like a lot of work. Leatherworking requires hides which can be acquired through skinning, bought off the auction house, or at the current top level, grown on the Farm. Tailoring needs no additional profession to support it. Tailors get cloth off drops AND have an ability to make cloth drop more frequently.

Now I’m sure I’m not the first to do this, nor will I probably be the last, but for my own edification, and as fuel for future whinging, I decided to conduct a simple comparison. I decided to see how my Farm yielded cloth vs. leather. I don’t think that professions influence Farm yields but to be on the safe side I decided to run this with both my leatherworker and my tailor and see how they did.
